Health Coaching for Cancer Survivors: Nutrition, Movement & Mindfulness Support After Cancer

Recovering from cancer is a profoundly personal journey and can be extremely overwhelming and isolating. Beyond the initial medical treatments, survivorship is about nurturing and revitalizing both body and mind. For many survivors, the end of treatment marks the beginning of a new set of challenges—how to not just survive, but live your healthiest, happiest life, what foods to avoid, how to move your body in a healthy way, inability to relate to your peers like before and so many others. As a cancer survivor myself, I understand the challenges and nuances this time in your journey brings. I help clients to focus on nutrition, movement, and mindfulness, providing vital support during this transformative period.

I'm Maddy, Your Holistic Cancer Health Coach

Hello! My name is Maddy, and I am a certified holistic health coach dedicated to supporting cancer survivors. Having worked closely with hundreds of survivors and going through this transitional period myself, I understand the complexities of the recovery process. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that healing encompasses the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. Each survivor’s journey is unique, and as such, I offer personalized coaching that addresses your individual needs, challenges, and goals.

My approach is focused on emphasizing a return to wellness through sustainable lifestyle changes and learning to embrace this new chapter you’re in.

What We Focus On

In our coaching sessions, we target three essential areas critical to your recovery: nutrition, physical activity, and mental wellness. These pillars are interlinked, each playing a crucial role in enhancing your quality of life. We aim to balance these elements tailored to your specific circumstances, creating a personalized strategy that promotes healing and health.

Nutrition Guidance After Cancer

Proper nutrition is vital for cancer survivors. The right foods can help repair and rejuvenate the body after the rigors of cancer treatment. As your health coach, I will work with you to develop a nutrition plan that addresses your specific needs, focusing on foods that support immune function, reduce inflammation, and boost your energy levels.

We will explore the benefits of a sustainable diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Antioxidant-rich foods, such as berries, nuts, and green leafy vegetables, will be staples in your diet to help combat oxidative stress and promote cellular health. Moreover, we will discuss the importance of anti-inflammatory foods, the role of dietary fiber in digestive health, and how to manage nutritional challenges that may arise from cancer treatments, such as altered taste sensations and appetite changes.

We’ll also focus on the helpful mindset shift of foods to add in to your diet rather than just what you should be avoiding. You’ll be feeling set up for success each and every week with a custom meal plan, grocery list and mindset tools.

Exercising After Cancer

Reintroducing physical activity after cancer is another pillar of our work together we’ll focus on. Exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence and alleviate long-term side effects of treatment such as fatigue, weight changes, and reduced inflammation and joint pain. Together, we will design an exercise regimen that aligns with your recovery stage and personal preferences.

Whether it’s low-impact exercises like walking or swimming, gentle yoga, or more structured strength training, each activity will be chosen to help you safely rebuild strength and endurance. We’ll focus on gradual progression, listening to your body’s signals, and adjusting as necessary to ensure your physical activities are both beneficial and enjoyable.

Mindfulness & Stress Management After Cancer Treatment

Managing psychological and emotional health is crucial in cancer recovery. Mindfulness and stress management techniques can significantly impact your mental well-being, helping to alleviate anxiety, depression, and the fear of recurrence. In our sessions, we will explore various practices such as mindfulness meditation, journaling, and progressive muscle relaxation—techniques that foster mental clarity and emotional balance.

We'll also discuss the importance of sleep and how it plays a critical role in both physical and mental health. Techniques for improving sleep hygiene and creating a restful environment will be integral parts of our strategy.

Reduce The Fear of Recurrence

Fear of cancer recurrence is a huge concern for many survivors. I know all too well that fear can overshadow your daily life and impact your overall quality of life. Together, we will tackle these fears by focusing on mindfulness practices, stress management techniques and proactive health management. We will explore evidence-based strategies that reduce the risk of recurrence, such as maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical activity, and consuming a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean protiens.

In addition, we'll cultivate a mindset that supports resilience and empowerment, enhancing your ability to handle uncertainties about the future.
